For 30 years, we have been collaborating to create ceramic and mosaic wall art and interior objects. Travel, nature, texture, and color inspire our bold ceramic and mosaic wall art. As trained artists we enjoy pushing the boundaries of ceramic glazes, material combinations, as well as ceramic and mosaic techniques to create uniquely beautiful mixed-media works of art.
Clare begins the work by freehand sketching in raw stoneware clay then hand carves the artwork to completion. The clay artwork is left to dry after which it is bisque fired in the studio kiln.
After the bisque firing, Romy hand paints the selected glazes upon it. The artwork will then be fired a second time where the glazes are transformed and vitrified by the heat in the kiln. Our tiles are fired to 2232 degrees which creates a very durable piece yet allows for some vibrancy in colors.
Some pieces undergo the addition of the magic of mosaic. We inlay semiprecious stones such as labradorite, smoky quartz, and cultured pearl, among others, to create unique and beautiful works of art.
These processes are not fast, and oftentimes not predictable, but that is what adds to their one of a kind charm. Much like “slow food,” we would call this “slow art.” Here patience is a virtue and is worth the wait.
