We love the zen of creating jewelry and belt buckles.  Combining colors and textures and semiprecious stones brings us joy. Many of our pottery and clay tile designs find their way into our accessory design.

The garden, nature, our travels, as well as internet journeys, have all played a part in the inspiration of these graphic ethnic art pieces. We love the rich spicy palette that reminds us of warmer climates.

Part of the fun of our work is the transformation of something old into something new.  We pick up vintage finds, such as furniture, frames, and architectural pieces, with "good bones" and then transform them into what we like to call functional art by adding custom-made tiles and colorful mosaic.

We are always inspired by the garden!  Our clay tiles start with a lump of clay. We roll it out and then cut the tile to size, freehand draw on the design, and carve away the background. Using our tools and stamps we add texture to the clay. After the tile is dried, bisque fired, and glazed we then Raku fire the clay tiles for the second time. 

Because Raku firing deals with extreme temperature change, no one can predict what the results will look like when the process is finished. The glazes crackle and change in intriguing patterns and colors that cannot be achieved in regular kiln firing. 

Finally, we mosaic with semi-precious stones and grout to enhance the tile's colors and texture.Oftentimes, we mount these whimsical and colorful tiles in hand built frames made of vintage reclaimed architectural trim.

Art in our Clare & Romy Studio line are hand carved in stoneware clay and glazed in a soothing palette with both glossy and matte finishes. We freehand sketch on clay, handcarve, individually glaze, & produce original works of art in small batches in our Indiana studio.
